Dear Cathy,

My car was covered with frost this morning, and the leaves were falling as I drove the quiet Ellensburg streets in the semi-light just before sunrise.

This is the knitter's time of year.

We are moved by the changing seasons, compelled to craft items to warm the hearts, heads, and hands of our loved ones.  We snuggle down by the fire to knit away the chill of the darkening fall evenings.  We cook casseroles and roasts.  Soups and stews.  We knit hats and scarves.  Mittens and socks.  Maybe even a sweater or two.  We pull out the spinning wheel and sink into the rhythm as the snow falls outside.  This is fall for a knitter.

If you find yourself reaching for your knitting this fall, you are not alone.  The Dancing Ewe has several social knitting groups that are open to everyone interested.  Drop in and say hello, and don't forget your knitting!
  • Tuesday Morning - 10:30am-12:30pm
  • Tuesday Evening - 5:00-7:00pm
  • Wednesday Afternoon Charity Knitting - 2:00-5:00pm
  • Thursday Evening -  5:00-7:00pm

As we sail through fall it is plainly clear that the holidays are on their way!  The Dancing Ewe is here to help with your holiday shopping and crafting needs.  We have lots of great gift ideas for everyone on your list.  (How about a hand knit hat?  Or a cute decorative snowman?)  Or stop by and fill out a "Wish List" of your own!  We also offer gift cards year round for that special someone.  If you cannot make it into the shop this season, give us a call.  Phone orders are always welcome!  (962-KNIT)

All the best of the season,

Janelle M.

Kathy S. just finished this adorable baby sweater.  She used Elizabeth Zimmerman's February Baby Sweater pattern from Knitter's Almanac.  "It is practically seamless and knits up quickly," Kathy says.  She used Lorna's Laces Worsted in Cranberry, and US size 8 knitting needles.  And Kathy notes, "There is enough left to make a hat or a pair of booties to match."  Add to that the easy care of Lorna's Laces yarns, and you've got a great baby gift just in time for the cool weather.

Cathy F. is knitting Stephanie Pearl-McPhee's "One Row Scarf Pattern" using our NEW Blue Sky Alpaca Suri Merino.  This yarn is a joy to work with, so soft and squishy!  It is going to be a very cuddly scarf!  Cathy is also knitting a pair of socks with Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in "Vera" for fall.  The Dancing Ewe just received a HUGE shipment of Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock yarn in gorgeous new variegated colorways!  Come see what's new!

hatJanelle is working on Christmas gift knitting, as well as a hat and mittens for herself!  She is making lots of quick-knit hats and a few scarves as gifts this year.  She is also knitting a classic Elizabeth Zimmerman pattern, the Seamless Hybrid sweater for her father.  She's using Cascade 220 in the color Provence.

Come by the shop and show us what's on your needles!
The Dancing Ewe is on RAVELRY!
rav
Of course we couldn't be left behind the Ravelry bandwagon!  All three staff members have Ravelry accounts, and we encourage our customers to get involved in this wonderful, interactive, free resource.

Ravelry is still in beta (testing phase) right now, so becoming a member involves submitting your email address and waiting for an invitation.  Believe us, it is worth the wait!  Once you are a member you will have access to a massive knitting and crochet database built by crafters like you!  To learn more about how it all works, check out the web site at www.ravelry.com.  Once you become a member Ravelry offers plenty of tools to help you learn and navigate the site, such as "Getting Started" and an on-line "Tour."

If you are already a Ravelry user come join our Dancing Ewe group, The Dancing Ewes!  We will share projects, ideas, and more.  A great place to ask questions and share thoughts in a positive, fiber oriented community.
Charity Knitting Update

charity basketOur Charity knitters are moving their fingers with great speed.  So far we have 23 hats, three scarves and two pairs of socks to send to the Rudensk Orphanage in Belarus.  The deadline for this year is October 31.  We will continue to knit for the orphanage and send them again next year as well as continuing to knit for CareNet.  Thanks so much to all who have donated.
